Celebrate your bog, transform your bog, preserve your bog, or change your communities relationship with their bog with the Peatlands Community Engagement Scheme!

The 2020-2021 call for the Peatlands Community Engagement Scheme is now open for schemes and proposals to be carried out on beloved bogs over the next two years.

The Peatlands Community Engagement Scheme is seeking to encourage local communities, local groups, schools and other interested parties to engage with the National Parks and Wildlife Service and the Dept of Culture, Heritage & Gaeltacht in relation to the conservation and revitalization of raised bog and blanket bog Special Areas of Conservation (SACs), Natural Heritage Areas (NHAs) and other peatland areas and promote public engagement and awareness of our natural heritage.

The Scheme will support a diverse range of initiatives with community benefit from events, education programmes, promotions, publications, exhibitions, development of conservation management plans, public amenity and recreational measures, maintenance measures that support the conservation of raised and blanket bogs, monitoring or surveying work to inform peatland restoration/conservation projects, invasive species and fire control measures, anti-littering initiatives to local environmental improvements in the area of the designated bogs and other peatland areas.

In 2018 and 2019 the scheme has helped dozens of superb peatlands projects all over the country and has allowed community groups take the next steps in highlighting the importance and beauty of their local bog for the betterment of biodiversity, society and our climate.

The application form and terms and conditions of the Scheme should be read closely before submitting an application. They are at the bottom of this post.
